You are cordially invited to the 17th Annual National Immigrant Entrepreneurs Summit (IES)!

The Immigrant Entrepreneurs Summit’s mission is to bring businesses of diverse backgrounds together to share, learn, and celebrate the immigrant entrepreneurship experience and contribution to the overall community. 

IES is a one-day summit and community gathering of businesspeople of all backgrounds and expertise, getting together in one event to highlight the important aspects of running a successful business.

Marlen Maddux

American Pacific Mortgage

Marlen Maddux is a nationally recognized, top producing mortgage loan officer and native of Honduras. In 1998, in the wake of Hurricane Mitch, and facing starvation, she left her two young daughters with relatives and embarked on a six-month journey to the United States. After running restaurants, Marlen obtained her real estate license and later her mortgage loan originator license. Along with the mortgage business, Marlen owns rental properties, a trucking business, and is a published author.

She is also the owner of Trixies Salon & Spa in Des Moines and was named the Iowa SBA Women in Business Champion of the Year for 2023. She is an active member of several Des Moines metro area chambers of commerce and is involved with NAWBO Iowa and FemCity Des Moines. In 2016 Rivas also established Dream Catchers Foundation, a nonprofit that provides free salon and spa services to adults and children who are chronically or terminally ill and to their caregivers.

Ying Sa is the founder, CEO & Managing Partner, and Certified Public Accountant of Community CPA. Born in Beijing, China she immigrated to Canada before relocating to the US. Ying served six years as the Chief Financial Officer for the Iowa Manufacturing Extension Partnership at Iowa State University and five years as Vice President of Controllers for Wells Fargo Financial, Inc. in Des Moines, Iowa. She started Community CPA in 1998. Among her many distinctions and contributions, Ying served as a member on Taxpayer Advocacy Panel from 2019 to 2021. Micah is also the founder of Stratus IAC, a footwear company that uses algae-infused ethylene vinyl acetate to create comfortable, single-material footwear.
